How factors are used

This article sets out the effect of partial factor inputs in Archie-M.

Factor as labelled in UI Description of use Notes
Factor for dead load Masonry density is multiplied by this value. The same factor is used for arch, pier, and backing masonry.
Factor for superimposed dead load Fill density is multiplied by this value.
Factor for surfacing Surfacing and overlay density are multiplied by this. It is not currently possible to specify different factors for overlay and surfacing. To achieved this, manually factor the densities before giving them to Archie-M.
Factor for live load Axle/wheel loads are multiplied by this and factor for load effect.
Factor for load effect Axle/wheel loads are multiplied by this and factor for live load.
Factor for material strength Material strength is divided by this value before use. Material strength is only used in the arch and piers. It is used to set the width of the zone of thrust.
