How factors are used
This article sets out the effect of partial factor inputs in Archie-M.
Factor as labelled in UI | Description of use | Notes |

Factor for dead load | Masonry density is multiplied by this value. | The same factor is used for arch, pier, and backing masonry. |
Factor for superimposed dead load | Fill density is multiplied by this value. | |
Factor for surfacing | Surfacing and overlay density are multiplied by this. | It is not currently possible to specify different factors for overlay and surfacing. To achieved this, manually factor the densities before giving them to Archie-M. |
Factor for live load | Axle/wheel loads are multiplied by this and factor for load effect. | |
Factor for load effect | Axle/wheel loads are multiplied by this and factor for live load. | |
Factor for material strength | Material strength is divided by this value before use. | Material strength is only used in the arch and piers. It is used to set the width of the zone of thrust. |
